Musicians are said to be ecclectic, artistic, gifted, ingenious, talented and naturally creative. Accomplished muscians must perfect subject matter.
Thinking over the master of keys herself, I am reminded of:
Beethoven who was DEAF
Stevie Wonder was is BLIND
Although these legends had DIFFERENT ABILITIES, they didn’t allow it to validate the views of society and what society would interpret as unachievable fete.
It is ALL in the RHYTHM.
Pitter patter pitter patter nope not right
She knew when the hands were on the fingers even when she was out of sight
Pluckety pluck pluckety pluck
She knew when the head was down and not on our music, sternly she would hit you and you knew to look up
Choppy choppy choppy that music is not smooth
There is a rhythm that should be felt when playing the piano where you cannot lose
I am glad she chose THIS MONTH to take her final breath.
Words such as legend, pillar, foundation, meticulous, perfectionist, honor comes to mind.
As the world PAUSE to remember and pay homage to WOMEN this month, this woman was the epitome of grace, dignity and humor and worthy of her flowers.
She was my piano teacher, not for long because my sister played better than I and I got mad at her hitting my fingers so I quit……lol
ENTREPRENURE, BUSINESS MINDED, PROFESSIONAL, JUST HUMBLE BUT BLUNT MOTHER KING…….
She was an usher in her final round on this ferris wheel who LEAD PEOPLE to designated seats BUT THIS WAS JUST HER…..
she lead budding pianists,
she lead the illitetate
she lead vocalists
She lead her descendants
she lead the ignorant
she rhythmically LEAD!
I HONOR MOTHER KING EVEN MORE TODAY…..
SHE DID ONE OF THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY ACTS EVER, MADE THE ILLITERATE LITERATE.
SHE UNDERSTOOD NOT ONLY THE POWER OF WORDS AND READING BUT SHE LEAD THE IGNORANT TO EDUCATION AND EMPOWERMENT.
SHE CHOSE TO DEFY THE ODDS INTENTIONALLY, NOT DENY AND DETAIN AND DECLARE THEY CAN, WILL AND MUST.
NOPE:
NO BIG AFRO
NO FIST RAISED IN THE AIR
NO DASHIKI
NO MARCHING
NO BLACK BERET
NO ALL BLACK
NO CHANTING
YET DEFIANT
YET RESISTANT
YET RADICAL
YET A WARRIOR
YET SHE WAS LIT
