AS I SAT AND WATCHED THE NEWS THIS MORNING, I JUST LEARNED ABOUT DR. MARTIN ON WILLIE GEIST SHOW, SUNDAY TODAY.

 

WHEN I SAW HIM DECKED OUT IN HIS ALL WHITE ATTIRE, ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS HIM IN HIS HONORARY WHITE COAT OR CEREMONIAL REGALIA WHERE HE TOPPED IT ALL OFF WITH A FLOWER THAT WAS FRESH, RIPE AND IN FULL BLOOM.

HE EARNED THE TITLE

HE EARNED THE ROBING

HE EARNED THE HONOR

HE EARNED THE ACCOLADES

 

THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT A DEGREE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSE CAN’T BRING INTO THE LIVES OF THE DOWNTRODDEN, HURT, ABUSED AND SICK.

HE LIVED, LOVED AND TREATED HUMANITY JUST AS HE WANTED AND NEEDED TO BE TREATED.

 

HE IS A MIRROR OF THE BLACK MEN WHO ARE WILLING TO WORK, CARE FOR THEIR FAMILIES, LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY, SUPPORT UNWAIVERING AND ENCOURAGE ALL OF HUMANITY IN SPITE OF NOT GETTING IT IN RETURN.

 

WHEN I HEARD HE WOULD PRAY FOR THOSE WHEN HE HEARD THE HELICOPTERS LAND, IT WAS HIM ACTIVATING HIS FAITH, TRUST, BELIEF AND BRINGING GOD INTO WHATEVER THE NEED WAS BEFORE HE KNEW THE NEED.

 

HE WAS AND IS A MAN OF GREAT FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, HONOR AND DIGNITY AND SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED AS SUCH.

NEVER KNEW HIM

NEVER SAW HIM

NEVER HEARD OF HIM

BUT AS A BLACK MAN IN THIS COUNTRY, HE IS THE EPITOME OF MEN WE NEVER SEE, WE WISH WOULD ALWAYS COME BACK TO US AND WHO WE KOW WE BIRTH AS BLACK WOMEN.

WHEN I LEARNED HE ONLY MISSED 1 DAY OF WORK, IT REMINDED ME OF MY HUSBAND OF WHO WE JUST LOST IN SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR.

 

HE TOO WAS ON HIS SICK BED WONDERING ABOUT HIS OVERTIME HOURS SO HIS FAMILY COULD BE SUSTAINED AND GO ON WITHOUT HIM IF THAT WAS GOD’S CHOOSING.

 

HEARING THIS STORY MADE ME PROUD TO BE MARRIED TO A MAN THAT REMINDED ME OF THIS MAN AND STARTED MY PEN TO WEILDING.

 

I KNOW EVERYONE HE TOUCHED

I KNOW EVERYONE HE GREETED

I KNOW EVERYONE HE SPOKE OVER

 

I KNOW EVERYONE WHO WAS TRANSFORMED BY WHATEVER AREA OF THIS HEALING PLACE WAS JUST THAT; HEALED BECAUSE OF HIM.

 

JOB WELL DONE DR. MARTIN!

HERE THINKING OVER 15 YEARS OF MARRIAGE…….

 

WHEN I SAY GOD BLESSED ME WITH THE PERFECT MAN, A PERFECT GENTELMAN, A PERFECT LOVER AND PERFECT FAMILY MAN; THIS WAS HIM.

 

HE SHOWED ME DAILY WHAT BEING CONFIDENT, CONTENT AND CALMING LOOKED LIKE AND HOW IT FELT.

 

I WANTED SOMETHING BIGGER BUT NOT FOR MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY BUT THE WORLD AND MY CHILDREN IN MY CLASSROOM.

 

I COULDN’T NOT NOT TAKE THE BIBLE LITERAL, IT WAS MORE FIGURATIVE THAN LITERAL; PEOPLE WORK FOR THEIR FAMILY AND MONEY NOT BEING LIKE GOD AND HEALING GOD PEOPLE AND CARING FOR THE LEAST OF GOD’S SUNKISSED CHILDREN.

 

I WANTED THE WORLD TO LOVE GOD’S CHILDREN THE WAY HE SAID AND SEEMINGLY DIDN’T PUT OURS FIRST.

 

I WANTED TO BE INDEPENDENT IN A MARRIAGE AND I WAS.

 

HE WANTED TO BE THE HEAD, LEADER AND GENTELMAN AND HE WAS WHEN IT WAS NEEDED.

 

I DIDN’T WANT OR LIKE ALL OF THAT CHIVALRY CRAP.

 

HE WANTED TO OPEN THE DOOR, TAKE OFF MY COAT AND THE LIKE AND I WAS LIKE; THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY HAND.

 

I USED TO TELL HIM ALL OF THE TIME, I CAN OPEN MY OWN DOOR, HE DID IT SO MUCH UNTIL I JUST BECAME RUDE AND HE MADE A VOW TO NEVER DO IT AGAIN AND HE REMAINED TRUE TO IT AND I WAS REALLY COOL WITH IT BECAUSE I WANTED HIM TO STOP IN THE BEGINNING.

 

I DIDN’T SEE THE BIG TO DO WITH ALL OF IT; IN MY MENTALITY YOU CAN DO ALL OF THAT AND STILL SCREW ANOTHER WOMAN SO I WAS GOOD WITH ALL OF THAT OUTWARD SHOW OF LOVE AND AFFECTION BECAUSE I HAD BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT BUT HAD I?

NO

 

WHAT I WAS DOING WAS BRINING AND LIVING OUT MY EMOTIONAL SCARS, ABUSE, MISUSE, HURT, HARM FROM PREVIOUS RELATIONSHIPS INTO THIS MARRIAGE AND HELD MYSELF BACK FROM LOVING AND BEING LOVED AND RAN FROM IT, REFUSED TO SEE IT AND BELIEVED I DIDN’T NEED OR DESERVE IT.

I KNEW WHO I HAD IN HIM

I KNEW THE MAN HE WAS

I KNEW HIS SINCERITY IN OUR UNION

AS I LOOK BACK AND REFLECT AND BEGIN TO REFLECT ON THIS SEASON OF GIVING THANKS THAT HAS TAKEN ME TO ANOTHER LEVEL IN LIVING: I WAS INDEED BLESSED TO BE HIS CHOSEN ONE; ALL I CAN SAY IS I WAS RICHLY BLESSED AND HE MADE ME A BETTER WOMAN.

 

I was perusing down the CARD aisle to begin THANKING family, friends and those who shared with us, walked with us, came with us, gave with us, checked on us, prayed for us and upheld us during the most hardest time we ever faced as a family.

 

I stood and saw the many occasions and realized; there is one for EVERY season of life and living and it was cool to see this expansion.

 

I stood and thought about my mom, she had a closet and in it she had LOTS of cards that were organized by title but did I say, MANY?

 

She had cards for EVERY season stashed and when the seasons came, she would tell me to go to the closet and get whichever was needed at the moment.

 

As I reflected and looked; it has expanded.

 

Greetings and support has expanded and we have expanded our view of what should be celebrated.

 

She got cards on sale of which meant, she knew that she would support, encourage, share with, engage and stand in the gap futuristically and was preparing herself before it came…….

 

When the holiday season was ending, she scooped up the cards for the next year.

 

That resonated with me, I began to reflect on why I had to get MANY cards for people and I traveled back to that closet where there were MANY cards awaiting but didn’t have an understanding of why until now.

Appreciate, Aid, Acknowledge, Affirm, Assign, Add, Accept the relationship journey strength  fight

Revitalize, Recall, Recognize, Reverse, Rejoice, Represent & Resound what it took to get up and Live

Donate, Deliberate, Direct, Defend, Direct, Discreet, Dream to elevate, motivate and inspire

Strive, Sprout, Save, Stir, Serve, Shape, Stabilize to be the reason, the light, the guide

 

These cards speak what the mouth can’t but heart is saying, enjoy!

SELFLESSLY SIXTY IS THE ADDITION OF THE YEARS WE SHARED WITH OUR SPOUSES.

I WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO REFLECT ON ALL THAT WAS ADDED TO YOU BOTH DURING YOUR MARRIAGE AND HOW YOU EACH CREATED BEAUTY AS YOUR FAMILY EXPANDED, YOU BLOSSOMED AND YOU ACTUALLY LIVED OUT YOUR VOWS IN THE MOST HONORABLE AND TRUTHFUL MANNER.

 

FROM THE MOMENT YOU STOOD AND DECIDED TO I DO TO THE POINT OF DEATH DOING YOU PART; REFLECT ON THE SONG I WON’T COMPLAIN AND REALLY AND HONESTLY ALLOW YOURSELF TO REFLECT ON ALL OF THE GOOD, RIGHT AND INTENTIONALITY BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT.

 

I WILL DO THE SAME AND WE MIGHT HAVE A BOOK TO HELP NEWLYWEDS WHO WILL HAVE TO FACE THIS SAME FATE; EITHER EXPECTANTLY OR UNEXPECTANTLY WE REALLY DO HAVE THE STRENGTH THEY WILL NEED.

 

THIS IS WHY GOD ALLOWED US TO GO DOWN THIS ROAD FIRST SO THAT WE CAN BE LIGHT, GUIDES AND GPS FOR OTHERS.

I found it hard to applaud this because I am not shocked.

I say all of the time, as a substitute teacher I KNOW off the back who has a BLACK classroom vs a white classroom.

The BLACK teachers demand that they represent them and their culture the RIGHT way

The BLACK teachers are just as these BLACK DADS who are ON DUTY

 

The ENEMY is within and is producing what we are seeing and we have a choice of whether they stay or go so we could love on protect and care for our children and nurse them back to what we know us to be.

It is in these differences we changed atmospheres

It is in these differences we passed on what we knew to the future and greatness was returned.

When I listened to the interview and the DAD’s began to get drilled on if they were CERTIFIED in psychology, sociology and criminal justice and other foolery, my mind went back to DR. MARVA COLLINS. She was a substitute who had one of the top schools in Chicago

 

She was my mentor and hero because it is NOT about courses, certifications or licensure but LOVE, RELATIONSHIP and being INTENTIONAL in directing brilliance, gifted, skilled and talented children to a brighter future and MONEY really doesn’t dictate it but repositioning does

For 400 years, these policies, laws, rules, codes, procedures and mandates have “kept us” in an inferior, ignorant, detached and oppressive state

For 400 years, our children of color have been unjustly targeted, framed, critiques, criminalized and killed

I went to the Lincoln Alumni Christmas gathering one year at the SHRINE and that did something for me and to me. In that room I saw wealth, brilliance, resilience, dedication, will and anyhow and I was made proud to be on their tree.

 

I learned the rich history of Lincoln Sr. High School and how it was the school for African Americans in this area and then the LEGACY of the school really resonated.

 

Those BLACK TEACHERS imparted

Those BLACK TEACHERS invested

Those BLACK TEACHERS expected

Those BLACK TEACHERS maintained a no excuse policy

Those BLACK TEACHERS viewed us as an extension of them

Those BLACK TEACHERS understood us as students

 

The gathering of my senior class to not only share in this difficult time but also to deposit, invest and bless my family was something shocking but not really because everything I post, I know it is us.

Yet, I learned just how much I do but don’t do simultaneously

 

This has inspired me

This has encouraged me

This has motivated me

This has shifted me

This has shown me

This has moved me
