The day of the mass shooting, Supt. Kelvin Adams said in the most unflinching manner that they were going to open back up the schools as soon as possible.

All I could do was gasp because I didn’t believe that was on his frontal lobe.

I never saw him console the principal.

I never saw him console the family members of the deceased.

I never saw him console the faculty, or staff.

I never saw him console any students.

Did he? I can’t answer that, I said I NEVER SAW HIM.

This morning on October 31st, the news anchor said that they will not start virtual learning.

Last I checked, virtual learning was ISOLATION and that is the root cause of thoughts of heinous crimes such as this.

Last I checked, it was being ALONE that cause thoughts of terrorizing.

Last I checked, solitary confinement cause:

Restricting: socializations, activities and gatherings are all major side effects of:

thoughts of suicide

propensity for aggression

So with this being said, you were willing to ISOLATE our babies and cause them to virtually NOT learn before they bury their beloved teacher and their beloved peer as though they have no right to grieve, process, be broken and get back to business as usual?

This is exactly why education is what it is in the Lou.

This is the not well thought out decisions that we teachers have to contend with on a daily basis and we are tired as Black educators.

If the students were white, affluent or not; we would have seen this mass shootings rotating and on repeat and our children knew race played a major role but THEY got it on the news the way it should.

WHEN MAMIE TILL MOBLEY ADVISED HER SON EMMETT TO, “BE SMALL DOWN THERE,” IT REMINDED ME OF A CONVERSATION I HAD WITH THE LATE, GREAT, HONORABLE REPRESENTATIVE WYVETTER HOOVER YOUNGE.

I HAD BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL IN GETTING A JOB IN MY PREFERRED CAREER WORKING WITH FAMILIES.

I TRIED, INFANTS, I TRIED TEENS, I TRIED ELDERS AND I ALSO WENT TO THE EMPLOYERS MY PROFESSORS SAID I SHOULD.

WHEN I WOULD GET INTO THOSE POSITION I WAS ALWAYS UNHAPPY WITH THE TREATMENT OR THE GOALS, MISSION, VALUE, CHARACTER STATEMENTS OF WHICH HAS ALWAY SPROVEN MY INTUITION TO BE CORRECT.

WHEN I WAS DENIED EMPLOYMENT, I WAS ALWAYS TOLD I NEEDED MORE EXPERINCE, I WAS “encouraged” TO RETURN TO SCHOOL AND GET HIGHER EDUCATION, I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS OVERQUALIFIED.

I ASKED SHOULD I TAKE I HAVE A DEGREE OFF OF MY RESUME BECAUSE IT APPEARS, IT IS HOLDING ME BACK FROM OBTAINING REPUTABLE EMPLOYMENT AND THAT WAS THE REASON I WENT OFF TO COLLEGE.

WELL, REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME IN A SCOLDING MANNER TO NEVER DENY OR OMIT MY EDUCATION. SHE REMINDED ME OF THE COMMUNITY I CAME FROM AND WHAT I HAD IN ME TO CLIMB THE LADDER OF HIGHER EDUCATION WAS AS HONORABLE AND SELF DETERMINATION AS I CAN GET.
